Internal and Corporate Communications Lead

About the role
The Internal and Corporate Communications Lead effectively coordinates and leads internal and project communication requirements for the RFDS in WA.
With a 24/7 workforce spread across the state, this position is responsible for developing a wide variety of internal communications that supports key business and strategic priorities and meets the needs of our people.
This role offers the right candidate the opportunity to apply strategic and creative thinking to strengthen internal communication initiatives and drive engagement and support for key internal projects.
Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Internal and Communications Lead plays a pivotal role in the planning and delivery of the RFDS’s internal communications and project communications strategy.
Whether you’re coordinating communications across departments, supporting change initiatives, or bringing our values to life in our everyday communications, your role is all about helping RFDS people stay informed, connected and engaged – wherever they are across WA.
Our team is small but mighty – the person in this role will need to roll their sleeves up and support the wider Community Relations team from time to time with activities and projects which may include events (sometimes during evenings and on weekends), tours and stakeholder engagement activities. Some intrastate travel may also be required from time to time.
About you
Essential
· Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, succinct and compelling content tailored to diverse audiences and channels.
· Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and consult with internal stakeholders through productive working relationships.
· Demonstrated communication project management skills with the ability to communicate high level project milestones and outcomes clearly and easily to internal audiences.
· Demonstrated experience in content creation for internal communication channels and external corporate communications assignments including intranet sites, internal correspondence, briefing documents, creative and digital assets, website content, publications, presentations and reports.
· The ability to manage multiple priorities, projects and work flexibly to deliver on requirements to a high standard.
· Strategic thinker with the ability to support priority projects across the organisation.
· Highly collaborative, adaptable and self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and stakeholder groups.
· Proficient with Microsoft 365 Programs and email marketing software (eg Campaign Monitor).
· Experience using data, analytics and stakeholder feedback to evaluate communication effectiveness and guide continuous improvement.
Desirable
· Experience in working for an organisation with a 24/7 frontline workforce spread across multiple locations.
· Experience in issues management.
· Experience working in a complex organisation which has gone through substantial organisational change and transformation across people, process and systems.
· Experience supporting internal communications during critical incidents, emergency management or business continuity events.
· Experience managing a SharePoint Intranet Site for a large organisation.
What your average day might look like in this role
You might begin your day by joining a project meeting for a new initiative that will soon roll out across the service. As the lead for internal communications, your role is to translate complex change impacts into clear, engaging content for staff across a number of channels including all staff emails, the intranet and executive presentations.
Next, you turn your attention to drafting the script for the upcoming CEO video conference. You liaise with senior leaders across the RFDS, including the CEO, to gather key updates. Your focus is on ensuring the messaging is timely, meaningful and relevant for our 24/7 workforce spread across all corners of WA.
In the afternoon you’ll review the home page and news section of the RFDS intranet, checking that content is up to date, clear and aligned with business priorities. You also prepare a few all-staff emails to communicate important operational updates. You collaborate closely with the people and culture team to ensure the messaging not only informs but also supports and motivates our workforce.
Before the day wraps up, you review internal campaign analytics to ensure our content is relevant and we’re identifying and implementing continuous improvements.

The mission of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is to provide excellence in aeromedical and primary health care across Western Australia. Every member of the RFDS WO team contributes to that mission and living our values of showing respect, demonstrating fairness, utilising diversity and being safe. Every year, the RFDS WO provides urgent retrieval for about 10,000 patients in regional WA. A further 10,000 appointments are provided in primary healthcare clinics in remote communities, including GP, nurse, dental and mental health care.
